• W3C was formed in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee
  • first “host” at MIT, USA
  • two more “hosts” joined later
    • INRIA, France, substituted by ERCIM, France, in 2003
    • Keio University, Japan
  • there are 14 “offices” as local representations
• W3C is a member organization (around 400 members)
• Liaisons with more than 27 external organizations
