1. Introduction

The Privacy Activity has been established to develop new components in the technical infrastructure of the Web to help address public policy issues related to privacy and data protection. To facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency of this Activity, the Privacy Coordination Group will provide a forum for managing the interrelationships and interdependencies among groups focusing on standards and technologies that relate to this goals of this Activity both inside and outside the Consortium.

2. Purpose and Scope

The mission of the coordination group is to coordinate the P3P working groups and activity. The Coordination Group may recommend chartering additional Working Groups in order to support the Activity. The CG will be responsible for coordinating the planning of any Workshops held related to P3P. In order to advance the goals of the Privacy Activity, the Coordination Group may form liaison agreements with outside activities in consultation with W3C Management.

3. Related Activities

The goal of this group is to coordinate the related groups relavant to the Privacy Activity. These groups include Working Groups directly associated with the Privacy Activity, other related W3C Working Groups, and various other organizations focusing on related policies and technologies. The following specific groups have been identified as the basis for this coordination.

This Corrdination Group will also maintain contacts with external groups as considered necessary.

4. Communication

The Privacy Coordination Group is expected to meet by teleconference as needed, likely on a monthly basis. Where and when appropriate the Coordination group will meet face-to-face. Additionally, the Coordination Group will maintain an email archive open to W3C Members.

5. Participation

The Privacy Coordination Group is a forum for identifying and discussing interrelationships and interdependencies among various groups related to the Activity. Participating members of this coordination group include chair of all the WGs in the Activity. At the discretion of the Chair, individuals involved in other organizations with which the CG has made liaison agreements may also be invited to participate on a one-time or permanent basis.

6. Duration

The Privacy Coordination Group will run as long as the Privacy Activity, which is chartered through July 2004.
