ISSUE-46: Modality Components need extensive registration and discovery facilities

MC Description Registration

Modality Components need extensive registration and discovery facilities

State:
CLOSED
Product:
MMI Architecture
Raised by:
Moshe Yudkowsky
Opened on:
2007-10-08
Description:
If MCs can send messages to each other, they need to be able to discover each other. This implies that at registration, the MC needs to send a description of its capabilities to the interaction manager, and the IM must keep this information available in a directory. (This brings to mind Session Description Protocol.)

Discovery of other MCs would take place through some interaction with the IM. For example, an ASR component could seek to discover a TTS component that could have variable prosody, in Spanish.

Also, it's possible that the MC would seek to broadcast. E.g., all currently-connected display devices might need to receive an updated display.

[ddahl]: decided to close at the Somerset meeting because this issue isn't applicable because MC's shouldn't talk to each other, will give Raj an action to write proposal for registration in general
