Session Title

Mapping Relational Databases to RDF using standards

Brief description (30 words)

We will present the two working drafts published by the W3C RDB2RDF Working Group: “R2RML: RDB to RDF Mapping Language” and “A Direct Mapping of Relational Data to RDF”.

Full description/abstract (150 words)

Due to the increasing interest of mapping relational databases to the Semantic Web, the W3C RDB2RDF Working Group has been working over a year to standardize a language to map relational data to RDF. The mapping language can be used to translate relational data into RDF in a ETL fashion, or virtually expose it as RDF, which can then be queried with SPARQL

In this presentation we will present our two working drafts:

  • “R2RML: RDB to RDF Mapping Language”: R2RML is the language to express customized mappings from relational databases to RDF
  • “A Direct Mapping of Relational Data to RDF”: A Direct Mapping is the direct representation of the relational data in RDF and is used as the default mapping when no customization is needed.
