Towards a summary report on current status of Semantic Web research and development activities in Europe. Funding programmes, market issues. Will continue refining survey through the summer.
Only listing European Commission SW projects. It does not, yet, address nationally-funded, commercial, opensource or digital library projects. It doesn't list related projects in the areas of (for example) Web Services, Device Independence, or other technologies which will be important for the wider success of the Semantic Web....
Future work (W3C EU projects, W3C SW Interest Group) will build upon the existing mechanisms for these projects to feed into W3C standardisation efforts. As SW work in Europe and worldwide increases, this becomes more and more important.
