I strongly share the vision associated with the Semantic Web. There is, however, a mismatch between basic requirements that can be derived from this vision and what Semantic Web technologies really have achieved. As a matter of fact, even RDF and RDFS as the most basic levels of the Semantic Web suffer from severe problems concerning scalability and simplicity. This is why the logical and computational foundations of the Semantic Web are at the center of my current research. However, I do not have any conclusive results yet.

In the combination of social software and the Semantic Web, which I like to call the Social Web, I see a chance to achieve the original vision of the Semantic Web. Such a kind of application of Semantic Web technologies might give people a real incentive to provide semantic data - an incentive which might be at least as strong as their incentive to present themselves at their own nice-looking homepages.
