I do not feel a need to actually present at this workshop. I have registered for the workshop (and for the Encryption Face to Face meeting the following day). Thanks, Donald W3C Workshop on XML Key Management Services Redwood City, CA, 19 July 2001 Position Paper of Donald E. Eastlake 3rd Member of Technical Staff Motorola Laboratories 20 Cabot Boulevard, Mansfield, MA 02048 USA My Experience: I have extensive experience in security protocol design, standardization, and implementation. I am: Co-chair of the XML Digital Signature Working Group and co-editor of the XML Digital Signature specification. Editor of the algorithms section of the XML Encryption specification (not yet integrated into a released document, see http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/xml- encryption/2001Jun/0070.html ). A principal architect of DNS security (RFC 2535-2541, RFC 2845, RFC 2930-2931, etc.). Author of the standard reference within the IETF on Cryptographic Randomness, RFC 1750. Designer and/or implementer of financial cryptography services (RFC 1898) including an implementation of the SET protocol. Company Needs: Motorola is increasingly considering the use of XML for handset and other mobile communications and transcoding. Security is an important element of this including mechanisms to establish trust based on keys and certificates. Expectations: I expect, based on the workshop, to be able to advise parts of Motorola concerning server based XML key and certificate trust established and to advise them as to the desirability of participation in any W3C activity resulting from the workshop. Contributions: I expect to be able to contribute to the discussion and evaluation of mechanisms for XML Key Management Services and to be able to contribute ideas for solutions, should problems be encountered, based on my extensive experience.
