Position Paper - Web Characterization Workshop

I am participating in the W3C Mobile Access Interest Group and related IETF groups, and would like to improve my understanding of the "typical" interactions on today's World-Wide Web. These groups are beginning to make recommendations for HTTP/HTTP-NG, HTML/XML, and related subject areas to improve the ability of mobile and wireless users to access resources on the World-Wide Web.

My specific interests are in the effect that widespread use of compression at the HTTP, HTML, and image levels might have on reducing the size and latency of interactions for all users, including mobile and wireless users.
