WAI Gallery [DRAFT!]

Welcome - Included - Review - Sites

NOTE! This is a draft under development by the Education & Outreach Working Group, and not to be quoted or referenced.

Welcome

Welcome to the WAI Gallery, which includes Web sites designed to be accessible to people with disabilities, according to their conformance with W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0).

Sites Included

The WAI Gallery includes Web sites which show different kinds of design examples and different levels of complexity of design, in a variety of languages, and with a variety of content. Web Sites in the WAI Gallery have been chosen according to conformance of selected pages to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, (WCAG 1.0) Level AA at the time of evaluation. (Level AA includes the first two out of three priority levels of accessibility checkpoints in WCAG 1.0.) The WAI Gallery features Web sites with integrated accessibility (e.g. not dependent on text-only pages to provide accessibility).

Inclusion of a Web site in this gallery is not an endorsement of the linked organizations, their products, services, or the content of their site; or a site's design with regard to other criteria such as elements of usability not specifically related to accessibility; nor is it a guarantee of a site's accessibility. Likewise, exclusion of sites from this gallery, or rotation of a site out of the gallery, is not an indication that a particular site does not conform to WCAG 1.0.

Since it is resource-intensive to evaluate and monitor sites on an ongoing basis, we present here just a small number of sites, and these sites may change from time to time.

Nominating Web Sites

To nominate a site for the WAI Gallery or to provide feedback to the Gallery, please send mail to _____. We regret that we cannot respond quickly, nor respond to all requests. We do not reveal the names of sites that have been nominated and reviewed but not selected.

Prior to nominating a Web site for inclusion in the WAI Gallery, we advise using the conformance evaluation process described in Evaluating Web Sites for Accessibility, preferably with a Review Team as described in Review Teams for Web Accessibility.

Review Process

Each Web site included in the WAI gallery has been reviewed by two or more experienced individuals or review teams using a modified conformance evaluation on selected pages, including the home page and the four sub-pages linked from the Gallery; the entire Web site has not been reviewed. Names of reviewers will remain confidential.

Some sites have an icon or code on these pages that assists in automatically monitoring changes to the site which may affect accessibility. Owners of included sites have also agreed to notify WAI of changes that may affect accessibility.
